Hypnotherapy is mind control!
Now that's a statement you won't often hear a Clinical Hypnotherapist like me making. However when you think about it an excellent Hypnotherapist has to take charge of the hypnotic process and they have to be able to establish control so that they command the mind to make the changes wanted and needed by the client.
If the Hypnotherapist cannot fully engage the client's mind then the hypnotherapy is likely to be ineffective. I don't know about you but when I go to see a professional I expect them to have confidence, skill and command of the situation at hand.
Hypnotherapists work with minds so keep in mind that in controlling the hypnotic process ultimately you as the client gain more control of your own mind and that is what you really want is it not.
Of course it is a process of change for the better and therefore I work alongside and with my clients to allow them to move from being stuck to unstuck. My clients work with me and I with them to allow them to gain flexibility and control of the way in which they think, feel and behave. So that they let go completely of that which was holding them back if they have come into see me to get rid of unresourceful states. In turn we replace those unwanted states with empowering ways of thinking, feeling and acting to give them back not only control but also confidence and appropriate levels of response in the times, places and situations they require them.
Other clients want to enhance performance in business or sports or other areas of their lives. Then we work together to identify exactly what they do want and how will they know when they have got it and we then utilise hypnotherapy and other modalities of change work such as NLP to allow them get to where they really want to be.
So to come back to my original premise. Yes we as Clinical Hypnotherapists work with the client. However, we have to have the ability to be very self assured so as to be in control of the process of hypnosis and to take charge of our client's thought processes in a mutually supportive way to enable them to make the changes that they came into us to make.
There is no room in my mind for half hearted hypnotherapy. Be the Hypnotist, be the Hypnotherapist. Make the changes and give the client a life changing experience of the power of well applied Hypnotherapy!
