Unfortunately owing to the advice plus guidance from the Government plus Public Health England, I cannot see any clients Face to Face until further notice. In addition and most importantly I'm a Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist through the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care. They have stated through the Regulator that no Face to Face work should take place until the 4th July at the earliest. In addition the CNHC the Regulator has put in place comprehensive plus stringent safety measures ahead of this.

In addition to aim to really try to be of help and support I have taken the decision to lower my professional fees in these very difficult times. I used to charge £95 for ninety minutes and £80 for one hour.

Time and again I have come to realise that basically people arrive in therapy with a problem or issue and feel they are stuck and powerless. It could be overwhelming anxiety or a phobia that has been there for years or it could be wanting to quit smoking or lose excess weight.
The bottom line is that they feel stuck, nothing is working and they have tried numerous other avenues until making a decision to seek out someone like me, a professionally registered Hypnotherapist.

That process shifts them from the Problem Frame to the Outcome Frame. It is different for every single client because we are all unique.
Thus I never use scripts which some hypnotists and hypnotherapists do where they read from a blanket script that has either been part of their course or they have bought a book with hypnosis scripts in for each condition and attempt to fit them to their client. In the early days of being a Hypnotherapist it may well be okay to use scripts but no Hypnotherapist worth their salt who has been in the profession for a few years should continue to use scripts.
The reason is that a script can never change, it is a fixed series of words that have been created by other Hypnotherapists for others to use. How can that be real therapy? Imagine going to a Counsellor and they read from a script??

Getting serious about hypnosis with modern science
The wonders of modern brain imaging are finally beginning to shed light on hypnosis. Hypnosis has been around for centuries in one form or another, however, modern hypnosis and hypnotherapy really is at the cutting edge of complementary medicine.
This article looks in more detail and just exactly what is happening in the brain of those that are being hypnotised.
Remember in these experiments one does not know the skill of the hypnotist and my professional opinion is that a highly trained hypnotist and hypnotherapist can often get most people into a very good working state of hypnosis.
The latest findings show that hypnosis is a distinct form of consciousness:
Distinct changes do take place in the brain according to scientific research.
"Hypnosis was the first Western form of psychotherapy, but little is known about how it actually works, the authors say."
The article then looks at the the three major changes within brain functioning when undergoing hypnosis.
Looking at the Dorsal Anterior Cingulate which shows a reduction in activity. Also identified was an increase in connections between the Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex and the Insula. Finally there was a decrease in connections between the Prefrontal Cortex and the brain's default mode network.
When these three specific changes are looked at together they match well known outer effects caused by hypnosis.
"Already, hypnosis has been proven to help people quit smoking or cope with pain and stress, the authors noted." It was also noted within the article that this study provides "important evidence" that could help convince sceptical patients of hypnosis' to make more informed choices.

It is beneficial that more and more investigations are occurring to look into the phenomenon of hypnosis, aiming to identify exactly what is happening in the brain and the physiology as a whole.
The Dorsal Anterior Cingulate appears to be involved with a drop in activity, within hypnosis it seems to calm down, whereas when a person is worried it is heightened. Other areas of the brain also increase in intensity and the article highlights that the brain and the body within hypnosis integrate and work together much better than outside of hypnosis. Other areas of the brain for example self reflection reduce.
This article looks as well at the degree one goes into hypnosis and finds that over 90% of people are at a medium level or above, with only 10% having low susceptibility. Many Hypnotherapists would state that every single person can go into hypnosis, as hypnosis they contend is an everyday occurrence. My own view is that there are so called everyday naturalistic trance states of absorbed attention but the hypnosis carried out by a well trained Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist is significantly different from these naturalistic or everyday periods. A good Hypnotist or Hypnotherapist can create a state of magnified concentration and total absorption to the point at which they can help to alleviate pain or for example remove a phobia. These things are beyond the realm of most people who have not experienced that hypnosis which is called Hetero Hypnosis.
Obviously more testing on Hypnosis is being carried out all the time. In fact Hypnotherapy and the use of hypnosis within it, is one of the most researched Talking Therapies ever to have existed. I for one welcome testing on hypnosis as it provides more insight and credibility into it.

Apologies for not posting here for a time, as I have been very busy helping my clients to overcome anxiety, fears as well as phobias plus also depression and addictions.
In addition I have been working with clients who wanted to improve their sporting prowess mainly tennis and golf, I used Hypnosis plus Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) methods with great success.

Post Referendum Stress Disorder!
A lot of people are feeling very anxious and stressed at this time of uncertainty post Referendum. Therefore it is important to remember that it is wise to remain as calm as possible, to control one's thoughts and feelings plus behaviours so as to maintain good health. Remember every single time one gets stressed, one is releasing adrenalin, noradrenalin and cortisol, the stress hormones. These push up blood pressure, release sugars and activate one for freeze, flight and fight.
Now the stress response (Sympathetic Nervous System) exists to deal with short term stress. Stress should be like a good short story, with a definite beginning, a clear middle and a defined end. Unfortunately for us in our 24/7 world where everything is go,go,go, we rarely get time to switch off completely and of course there is no clear beginning to the stress and no clear end as one stressor merges into another.
We are bombarded with data, overwhelmed with stimuli and also let's face it often surviving on poor nutrients (think fast food) lots of caffeine and alcohol. If one continues like this it is highly likely if not inevitable that one will end up with Adrenal Fatigue.
We need to have both the Sympathetic Nervous System (think fight, flight) and the Parasympathetic Nervous System (think relaxation response or what is called stay and play) balanced. The key to being able to manage and cope is to be able to switch from the Stress Response to the Stay and Play Response quickly.
Yes we do need stress in the form of challenges. However, a lot of our stress is beyond our own control. I remember a wise person once saying to me "There are three types of work in this world Douglas, they are God's work (if you do not like the idea of God think Universal Energy), other people's work and our own work, and there is only one of those in our control" You guessed it, we can only control our own work in life, our own thoughts, our feelings and our actions.
So if you are feeling anxious post Referendum and feeling frightened plus uncertain what can you do?
1) Do some breath work either 7/11 breathing (Google it) or Block Breathing where one breaths in through the nose to a mental count of four, then hold the in breath for a mental count of four, then breath out through the nose to a mental count of four, then hold the out breath for a mental count of four, then breath normally for a few times and then repeat the cycle of the Block Breathing. Do the complete cycle four times and you will feel much more relaxed. Be your own guide as to how long to breath in for and to hold the breath for but a mental count of four is beneficial.
2) Tense and relax muscle groups, start off at the head and breath in deeply, hold the breath for 4 seconds as one tenses each muscle group working from the forehead, downwards, to the feet. After each tension whilst holding the breath to a mental count of four, then breathe out normally whilst relaxing the particular muscle group you have been tensing.This method is often better taught in a session with a therapist.
In essence it is a form of Progressive Muscular Relaxation, where we tense and then relax the muscles. We pay attention to both the tension and also more so we pay specific attention towards the relaxation following the tension. When we tense one particular muscle group we keep the other muscle groups relaxed. If you do not like tensing your muscles prior to relaxing them, just imagine the muscles softening, relaxing and smoothing out.
3) We can visualise a very pleasant scene in our mind's eye. When it is safe to do so, close the eyes and take yourself back to a very pleasant memory of a favourite scene (this can be a real scene from a holiday or an imaginary place). Then we step into our own self so that we do not see ourselves in the memory but we are actually back there then, looking out of our own eyes, seeing what we see and feeling what we feel plus hearing what we hear, smelling what we smell and tasting what we taste. Make the memory of the favourite place very vivid (practice will make it more vivid). Then spend a few minutes there, really absorbing the scene which in the past made you feel so relaxed, calm and at ease and will do so again through active exploration of your memory.
4) Use a trigger word: Anytime you naturally feel relaxed, at ease and have a positive mood link it to a trigger word you say in your mind or a trigger phrase such as "I am calm and at ease". Or it could just be one word such as "relaxed" The key is to use exactly the same word or phrase every single time to create an association between the way you feel and that particular word or phrase. Then whenever you feel stressed, you simply think your trigger word or trigger phrase and watch how quickly you can calm down.
